Pregnenolone is a balance hormone made primarily in the adrenal glands but also in the brain and can be metabolized into progesterone. It serves as the parent hormone for all adrenal cortical steroids including progesterone, testosterone, estradiol, and cortisol. Pregnenolone levels decrease with age, during periods of fatigue or inadequate cholesterol production. At age 75, one has about 60% less pregnenolone that at age 55.
