It is a beautiful but stressful world we live in.

We all become stressed over our lifetimes.

Anxiety is here to stay... and it starts early.

Obtain natural tools to fight back.

            Who are these Millennials?

Millennials are the first generation of individuals to grow up with regular internet access AND cell phones... Internet encompassing YouTube, FaceBook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter and Linked-In. They are a generation of multitaskers. There are great expectations for what this generation may achieve. Yet, all of this responsibility and expectation can be quite problematic to one’s mental health. Millennials may just be the most stressed generation in history.

With a large percentage of unemployment and a very uncertain economic future, in addition to incessant technology-dominated lifestyles, Millennials are at risk for chronic, overwhelming stress related to: Work, Money, and Relationships. Economic troubles have forced around 50% of young adults to still live in their parents' homes.

Generation Anxious

Anxiety is characterized by feelings of tension, worried thoughts, and physical changes like increased blood pressure, irritability, and anger, all of which are correlated with increases in anxiety and depression. Stresses are manifested in the body both physically and emotionally. Your body responds to external stressors by utilizing hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol.

Adrenaline increases heart rate, elevates blood pressure, and boosts energy supplies. Cortisol, the primary stress hormone, increases glucose levels in the bloodstream to enhance the brain's use of glucose and increase the availability of substances that repair tissues. Cortisol also alters immune system responses and suppresses the digestive system, the reproductive system, and the growth processes. With consistent stress, it is difficult for these hormonal responses to resume their regular activities, keeping you in a long-tem activation of the stress-response system. This can disrupt almost all of the body's processes and put you at increased risk for numerous health problems-- anxiety, depression, digestive problems, heart disease, sleep problems, weight gain, memory and concentration impairment.

Students

"What is your GPA?"
"What is your SAT score?"

These types of questions start early...

School becomes even more stressful as students attempt to balance their curriculum with work, friends, family, and a healthy life outside of school. This is all understandable. As students, we become sponges for information. But something is wrong-- there are concerning downward trends in college students' mental health. In colleges across the country, students are experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, and sleep disorders in alarming numbers. And things are only getting worse...

DID YOU KNOW? The average age of onset of mental health problems is 18 to 24 years old, the typical college age range

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, approximately 75% of individuals with anxiety disorders will experience symptoms before the age of 22.

Millenials must address these issues before they become a problem. In other words, the sooner, the better. It is never too late.

ANXIETY?  Is this YOU?

Anxiety is characterized by feelings of tension, worried thoughts, and physical changes like irritability , anger, mood swings;  even the feeling of blood pressure increasing.  Stress levels rise.

Stress is manifested in the human body both physically and emotionally.

Your body will respond to stress by utilizing the hormones adrenaline and cortisol.

Adrenaline is designed to boost energy during a time of specific need. But when chronically raised, it elevates your blood pressure, and disrupts your hormone balance.

Cortisol  known as the “stress hormone”  is good in normal doses. But with continued stress, you are trapped in a long-term activation of the stress-response system. This can disrupt almost all of your body's processes leading to  Anxiety, Depression, Digestive problems, Sleep problems, Weight gain, Memory and Concentration impairment.

SLEEP DISORDERS

Insomnia / Sleep Issues:  Today’s youth are at a tremendous risk for long-term, sleep-related health impacts. Sleep disorders are on the rise!

Is technology causing a lifetime of pain?

Modern technology is certainly hindering our sleeping schedules. This is without a doubt a large part of the problem, but all the blame should not be directed here. The bigger problem might lie in the fact that we have created a world of constant stimulation that does not stop when the sun goes down…

Constant use of light emitting devices…computers, ipads, iphones, TV disrupts the brain’s natural rhythm.  Melatonin is no longer being made at the appropriate time and the body struggles to find the sleep it needs.  Circadian Rhythm gets disrupted

Insomnia in Millennials is an overlooked problem today.

Millennials seem to be the most vulnerable, and are shaping up to be the most sleepless generation yet.  We call it "The Sleep War".

52% of Millennials reported stress-related insomnia.  That’s a LOT! As for the main source of stress, millennials and gen Xers were most likely to say they were stressed by work, money and job stability

Millennials, much more than any other age group or generation, believe that in order to get ahead in life, they must first survive on less sleep. Stress is now an everyday reality. They feel obligated to be on call 24 hours a day.

We are waging a war on sleep, and even though it sometimes feels as if we are winning, we will never win in the end... If you are feeling cranky or confused, you may need to examine the quality of your sleep... Humans are constantly screwing with their body clocks, and getting less and less sleep.

Sleep loss has tremendous cognitive consequences.

Dozens upon dozens of studies have connected lack of sleep to debilitating deficits ranging from poor insight formation to diminished working memory. Heavy sleep deprivation is also associated with increased mortality and also obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and impaired cognitive function.

We must help those who have already fallen victim to this way of life.

Melatonin can help YOU reset your sleep / wake cycle and help you to win the Sleep War.
